In general, iPhone XS / XR and later support eSIM. To check:

  1. Open Settings → Cellular
  2. If you see "Add eSIM" (or "Add Cellular Plan"), your iPhone supports eSIM

You can also dial *#06# — if a 32-digit EID appears, eSIM is supported.

Exceptions to watch for:

  • iPhones sold in mainland China: some models are physical-SIM only and do not support eSIM
  • Carrier-locked phones: cannot be used even if the model supports eSIM (how to check)
