Essential Setting After Installation: Turn On Data Roaming
⚠️ 【Critical】After installing your eSIM, you MUST turn on "Data Roaming"
Settings app → Cellular / Mobile Data → select the eSIM line you added → turn "Data Roaming" ON
Without this setting, your eSIM will not be able to connect to mobile data overseas.
Why Data Roaming Must Be Turned On
Our eSIM connects to local carriers as a "roaming" line. From your device's perspective, using a foreign carrier counts as data roaming.
On both iOS and Android, "Data Roaming" is off by default, so no data will flow until you enable it. Simply activating the eSIM profile is not enough — you must turn on Data Roaming for the specific eSIM line you added.
iOS (iPhone / iPad) Steps
-
Open the "Settings" app
-
Tap "Cellular" (or "Mobile Data")
-
Tap the name of the eSIM line you added
- If you have multiple lines, choose the plan name you assigned to the eSIM purchased from us (e.g., "Travel" or whatever name you set).
-
Turn "Data Roaming" ON (green toggle)
-
On the same screen, also verify:
- "Turn On This Line" is enabled
- Under "Cellular Data", the selected line is the eSIM you added (if you want to use the eSIM for data)
-
Return to the Settings app and confirm that "Cellular Data" points to your eSIM line
-
As a final check, toggle Airplane Mode on and off to re-establish the connection
Notes
- Depending on your iOS version or device, the menu may be labeled "Cellular" or "Mobile Data".
- The eSIM line name is whatever you assigned during installation. You can rename it later from the plan label settings.
Android Steps
The exact menus vary by manufacturer and Android version, but the general flow is:
-
Open the "Settings" app
-
Go to "Network & Internet" or "Connections" → "Mobile Networks"
-
Open "SIMs" or "SIM Manager" and select the eSIM you added
-
Turn "Roaming" ON (may be labeled "Data Roaming" or "Mobile Data Roaming")
-
On the same screen, also verify:
- The eSIM line is enabled (ON)
- "Mobile Data" is enabled on the eSIM side
-
Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to re-establish the connection
Notes
- The screen layout differs between Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, etc. Also look for terms like "SIM Card Manager" or "Preferred SIM".
- If you are keeping your physical SIM active, you need to switch the "Mobile Data" line to the eSIM.
Common Issues
Still can't connect after enabling Data Roaming
- Is Airplane Mode enabled? Toggle it off and on.
- Is your "Cellular Data" line still set to your physical SIM? Switch it to the eSIM.
- Are you showing "No Service"? It may take a few minutes to connect right after arrival.
- If none of the above work, restart your device.
The eSIM line doesn't appear
- Installation may not have completed. Try adding the plan again from "Add Cellular Plan" by re-scanning the QR code.
- A QR code can only be used once. If it has already been used, please request a reissue.
Important Notes
- "Data Roaming ON" is the correct setting when traveling. Normally, enabling data roaming on your physical SIM can lead to high charges, but our eSIM plan already includes roaming, so no additional charges will apply. You can safely turn it on.
- After returning home, either turn "Turn On This Line" OFF for the eSIM, or switch your data line back to your physical SIM. Make sure Data Roaming on your physical SIM stays OFF (for normal domestic use).
- We strongly recommend completing installation and this setting before departure, while you still have Wi-Fi. Fixing issues after arrival is much harder without any mobile connection.
